Box Score The Maryville College baseball team fell to 1-4 on the season after dropping a USA South road game against Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama by the score of 9-1 late Friday evening.
Both squads pounded out ten hits each, but the Hawks took advantage of a five run fifth inning to earn the victory in the first game of a three game league series.
MC's Seth Debity (0-2) suffered the loss on the mound after tossing four innings, scattering five hits, and allowing six earned runs. Huntingdon's Jackson Cruce (2-0) allowed eight hits over six innings to earn the win. The Hawks' Dalton Dalrymple earned a save with three shutout innings to close out the game.
Maryville's ten hit attack was led by Nick Dean. The senior shortstop finished 3-for-5 while scoring the Scots' only run. Dean was driven home in the 5th inning with a Greg Vourloumis RBI single up the middle. Vourloumis and Chris Ervin each finished with a pair of hits.
Huntingdon (4-0, 4-0 USA South) was led at the plate by Alec Raley's 2-for-5 effort. The leftfielder tallied 4 RBI's on the evening.
The Scots will challenge the Hawks once again on Saturday in Montgomery. First pitch is slated for 4:00 est.
