Box Score 2 The Maryville College baseball team moved to 5-4 on the season and 4-4 in USA South Athletic Conference action after sweeping the Pride of Greensboro College by the scores of 10-7 and 7-4 in a double header on Sunday at Lakepoint Complex in Emerson, Georgia.
In the series opener, MC's Seth Debity earned his first win of the season after holding Greensboro to only one earned run in five innings of work. The right-hander scattered six hits and relied on five relievers to preserve the victory. Tyler Hopkins came on in the ninth to secure the save with a pair of strikeouts.
Maryville's 11-hit attack was paced by Logan Jenkins, Chris Ervin, John McDermott, and Sam Jokerst. The four Scots each posted a pair of hits with Jenkins recording a team-high three RBI's. The Scots broke the game open with an eight run third inning. The inning featured RBI base hits by Zack Blonder, Ervin, and Jenkins.
The Scots earned the sweep in game two with Jeremy Ibarra tossing five complete innings for his third win of the season. The right-hander struck out five while scattering four hits, allowing only a pair of earned runs. Evan Heffner threw an effective three innings of relief allowing only one hit before Jerod Dickey earned his first save of the season closing the door in the ninth.
MC accumulated only seven hits during the victory, taking advantage of every scoring opportunity. Logan Jenkins and Zack Blonder each finished with a pair of hits.
After trailing 2-0 through the first four innings, the Scots took the lead with four runs in the fifth and advanced to 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth. The fifth inning rally featured key RBIs by Nick Dean and Greg Vourloumis. MC used a two-RBI single to rightfield by Blonder to put the game out of reach.
The series will conclude on Monday with the final game on MC's Scotland Yard. First-pitch is slated for 1:00.
