Box Score The Piedmont College Lions posted another double-digit hit performance while their pitching staff held the Maryville College diamondmen to seven hits en route to a 10-6 USA South victory over the Scots on Saturday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard.
Maryville took a brief lead in the first with a double steal scoring Logan Jenkins.
Piedmont took a 2-1 lead in the second after a four hit attack off MC starter Jeremy Ibarra.
The Lions extended their advantage to 5-1 in the top of the sixth. Piedmont took advantage of an MC fielding miscue and with a pair of hits plated a trio of runs.
The Scots answered in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of runs. John McDermott and Nick Dean connected on back-to-back singles before Zack Blonder sent them home with a double to right-center field. After six complete innings the Scots trailed 5-3.
Piedmont tacked on two runs with one out in the eighth off MC reliever Joe Jones. A Will Skidmore two RBI single made the score 7-3.
The Lions added a trio of insurance runs in their final at bat. RBI singles by Michael Barnes and Austin Brick finished Piedmont's scoring.
Maryville attempted a late rally when Nick Dean placed a two-out, bases loaded double over the centerfielder's head scoring Logan Jenkins, Andrew Henry, and David Shiplett. A Zack Blonder groundout finished the MC comeback making the final 10-6.
Maryville's Jeremy Ibarra suffered his first loss after a six inning effort scattering seven hits and allowing only a pair of earned runs.
The Lions' posted a 15 hit attack. Catcher Austin Brick went 4-for-4 while scoring a pair of runs. Will Skidmore, Michael Barnes, and Casey Parham each tallied three hits.
MC's seven hit offensive performance was paced by Zack Blonder's pair of doubles and two RBIs. Nick Dean finished 2-for-5 with a game-high three RBIs.
Piedmont advances to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in USA South action. Maryville falls to 1-2 and 0-2 in league play. The final game of the three game series will begin at 2:00 on Sunday on MC's Scotland Yard.
