Box Score 2 Behind the bats of Chris Ervin and Zack Blonder and the standout pitching of Evan Heffner and Jerod Dickey, the Maryville College baseball team advanced to 13-5 on the season with a 4-0, 4-0 double header sweep of Berry College on MC's Scotland Yard on Tuesday afternoon.
Maryville's Evan Heffner threw a complete game, two-hit shut out while striking out four to give the Scots a victory in game one against the Vikings.
The Scots scored a run in the first when Zack Blonder grounded into a bases loaded double play.
Nick Reynolds doubled with one out in the third and Logan Jenkins walked. Chris Ervin placed a single to right centerfield to send the pair home to make the score 3-0.
Ervin sealed the victory with a solo homerun over the left field wall against the wind in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Maryville managed only a trio of hits off three Berry hurlers with Ervin finishing 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.
In the series finale, Jerod Dickey went to 2-0 on the season after allowing only two hits in four innings. The right-hander struck out five and relied on Bill Woodroof and Tyler Hopkins to preserve the shutout over the final three innings.
Chris Ervin lit up the scoreboard once again in the bottom of the second with a solo blast to left centerfield, his second round tripper of the day.
In the third Nick Dean lined a double off the left field wall scoring Logan Jenkins. Zack Blonder made the score 3-0 with a single through the left side to score Dean.
MC's final run came in the sixth when Blonder doubled down the right field line. The junior first baseman later scored on an Austin Waters RBI single up the middle.
The Scots' eight hit attack was led by Blonder's 3-for-3 afternoon that included a run scored and an RBI. Nick Dean added a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.
Maryville will now prepare for a three-game home series with USA South foe Ferrum College beginning on Saturday.
