The Maryville College diamondmen moved to 17-7 on the season and 13-7 within the USA South following an 8-0 shutout over Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Saturday evening.
MC swept the Saturday doubleheader with a 16-hit offensive attack led by Nick Dean (3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Austin Watters (3-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBI), and Jacob Frost (3-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBI).
Maryville's Jeremy Ibarra (5-1) tossed seven innings to earn the win after scattering five hits and striking out two. Joe Jones and Zack May helped preserve the shutout allowing just one hit over the final two innings.
MC scored three runs in the first inning with RBIs by Dean, Zack Blonder, and Watters.
Jacob Frost scored on a Logan Jenkins ground out in the second.
An RBI single by Watters scored Dean in the fifth. Frost made the score 7-0 with an RBI single that sent John McDermott and Watters home.
Maryville's final run came in the sixth when Dean singled to right field scoring Logan Jenkins.
With the loss, Covenant falls to 7-12 on the season and 4-7 within the USA South.
MC will play Covenant on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Lookout Mountain, Georgia to complete the USA South series.
