Box Score The Maryville College baseball team earned their 20th victory of the season with a 10-1 win over the University of the South (Sewanee) on Tuesday evening in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Scots (20-10) last eclipsed the 20-win mark in 2011.
MC pounded out 11 hits behind the NCAA Division III hit leader Nick Dean. The senior shortstop, hitting .440 with 55 hits, added a 3-for-5 performance against the Tigers. Freshman outfielder Michael Hawks boosted his average to .316 after going 2-for-3 with a pair of homeruns and a game-high 4 RBI. Left fielder Logan Jenkins added a pair of hits to elevate his season average to .342.
Jerod Dickey led a staff that limited Sewanee to only seven hits and one earned run. Dickey (3-0) earned the victory after tossing four innings, allowing only three hits. Alex Torres tossed a pair of shutout innings while Joe Jones, Zach McGee, and James Ridgway shut down Tiger bats with an inning each.
Sewanee falls to 8-14 on the season.
Maryville will now prepare for a key USA South series beginning Friday against North Carolina Wesleyan. First pitch of a doubleheader on MC's Scotland Yard is scheduled for 1:00 on Friday. The series finale will be noon on Saturday.
