Box Score Maryville College junior right-hander Seth Debity tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout to defeat Emory University 8-0 on Saturday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard.
The Madisonville, Tennessee native shut down an Eagle lineup that came into Scotland Yard with a .289 team batting average. Debity struck out four while only walking a pair in his first collegiate complete game.
Maryville earned an early lead in the bottom of the third inning when second baseman John McDermott laced a full-count, two-out, single to opposite field to score Nick Dean from second base.
MC's Evan Ezell led off the fourth with a double to start a six-run rally. Ezell scored on a wild pitch before the Scots loaded the bases. Nick Dean connected for an RBI single to left and Zack Blonder drove in a run with a fielder's choice. An Austin Watters ground out scored the fourth run of the inning before McDermott stroked a two-RBI double to make the score 7-0.
The Scots tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Dean doubled and jogged home on a Greg Vourloumis RBI single through the left side.
Emory (21-11) was led offensively by leadoff hitter Wes Peacock who finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon.
Maryville (23-11) supported Debity's mound effort with a 14-hit attack. Andrew Henry was 3-for-4 with a run scored while Dean was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored. John McDermott posted 3 RBI while going 2-for-5.
The Scots will celebrate "Senior Day" on Sunday as they host Emory University for their final home game of the season. Also, in celebration of NCAA Division III week, MC will honor the 2014-15 women's basketball team for their nationally ranked season as head coach Darrin Travillian will throw out the first pitch. First-pitch is slated for 2:00.
