Box Score The Maryville College women's soccer team opened their 2015 USA South schedule with a 1-0 loss to Meredith College on Friday evening.
The Avenging Angels took advantage of a deep pass that trickled past the Maryville defenders. Meredith's Jessica Wallace gained control for a shot off MC keeper Rachel Taylor, snagged the rebound and found the open net at the 9:19 mark in the first half.
With the early lead, Meredith continued answering MC's seven first half shots on goal with constant pressure on the Scots' forwards. The Angels' defense thwarted numerous attacks while keeper Jaisa Loch tallied three saves in each half.
Maryville's Sierra Siegel took five of the Scots' ten shots on the evening, three landing on goal but each turned away by Loch.
Meredith advances to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in USA South challenges. Maryville falls to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Scots will return to the field on Sunday when they host USA South foe Methodist College on the Maryville College campus beginning at 1:00.
