Sierra Siegel's late goal lifts Maryville past Bridgewater 1-0

Box Score

As the match wound down to the final minutes, Maryville College senior Sierra Siegel took a ball down the right side and bent a shot into the upper left of the goal to secure the Scots a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater College on Saturday evening.

In a match that was delayed by lightening, Bridgewater doubled MC's offensive attacks, but the defensive effort led by Allyson Hale, Rachel Leal, Mackenzie Hutton, and Lizzy Simmons thwarted over 22 Eagle shots while Maryville keeper Mandy Marshall turned away eight shots on goal.

Maryville kept pressure on the Bridgewater defense with 11 shots, forcing Eagle goalie Hayley Talbott to secure five saves.

Siegel's unassisted game winner came at the 75th minute, only one of four shots on goal by the Scots in the second half.

MC's Marshall earned the shutout victory in net with eight total saves, five in the final period that featured 13 Eagle attacks.

Maryville (2-0) will challenge Birmingham Southern in the final day of the MC Invitational on Sunday with a scheduled 10:30 a.m. start.
