Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team moved to 11-3 on the season after the Scots defeated Johnson University 99-67 in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee on Tuesday evening.
Maryville's Spencer Shoffner went 12-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to a 33-point performance. His scoring effort catapulted the senior from Oak Ridge into 24th place all-time in scoring for the Scots.
The Scots exploded for a 67% shooting effort in the first half with Shoffner throwing down 25 before the half. MC's energy and defensive effort allowed Johnson only a 36% effort from the floor for a 67-40 halftime advantage.
Coach Lambert used the second half to get valuable playing time for his squad that featured a dozen Scots scoring on the evening.
Emanuelle Garcia and Colt Nokes each finished with a dozen points to help Maryville post their second consecutive victory and only their second road win of the season. Jay Bowyer directed MC's offense with seven assists while Dante Hoppa led the Scots on the boards with eight boards.
Four Royals finished in double-digit scoring with Kenny White and Rickey Bowen tossing in 18 and 17 points each respectively. Taylor Gilpin added 16 points in the loss.
Maryville, 2-1 in USA South action, will return to league play this weekend when they travel to North Carolina Wesleyan College and William Peace University this weekend to challenge the pair of conference foes.
