Box Score Fourteen seniors will play their last home soccer match on MC's pitch this weekend. On Saturday, nine women's soccer Scots said farewell to their home field for the past four seasons with a 4-0 USA South victory over Wesleyan College (Ga.).
The eventual game-winning goal came just before the 11th minute when sophomore Miranda Lukas crossed a header to senior Casey Gentile. The senior from Cape Coral, Florida sent a shot into the upper left of the net to give the Scots a 1-0 advantage.
Just before the half, Gentile was in a giving mood directing a corner kick to the head of senior Kaitlyn Kennedy. The senior from Chattanooga, Tennessee directed the header, her second goal of the season, past Wesleyan keeper Alyssa Whitford to make the score 2-0.
MC kept consistent offensive pressure on the Wolves in the first half out shooting Wesleyan with a 15-2 advantage.
The Scots continued their assault in the second half with 19 additional shots.
In the 68th minute, senior Eleni Mavres dished an attack to fellow senior Janelle Calhoun for her fourth goal of the season.
Maryville final goal came in the 71st minute. Sophomore Natasha Enrique dribbled through four defenders in the box before sending her fifth goal of the season into the back of the net.
The combination of Mandy Marshall and Rachel Taylor as well as the MC defense earned the shutout. Wesleyan could only manage three shots on the afternoon.
Wesleyan's Whitford turned away 16 of Maryville's 20 shots on goal as the Wolves fall to 3-10 on the season, 1-10 in USA South play.
The victory moves Maryville to 8-6-1 overall and 8-3-1 in league action.
Maryville will prepare to conclude their regular season on the road against Salem College and Piedmont College on October 21 and 22.
