Box Score The Maryville College women's soccer squad posted their sixth consecutive defensive shutout en route to a 4-0 victory over USA South foe LaGrange College on Friday evening on MC's campus pitch.
The Scots' defense, led by the efforts of Eleni Mavres, Mackenzie Hutton, Miranda Lukas, Casey Gentile, and Rachel Leal-with Mandy Marshall in net, extended their consecutive scoreless streak to 560 minutes by limiting the Panthers to four total shots.
With MC's defense shining, their offense went on constant attack with eight off-sides and 21 shots on Panther keeper DeAundra Green.
The Scots lit up the scoreboard just after the 30th minute when senior Janelle Calhoun took a turnover, dribbled between a pair of defenders and blasted a shot from 18 feet out into the upper left of the net. The goal was her second of the season.
MC extended their lead after the intermission in the 49th minute when Calhoun, a Knoxville Webb graduate, took a low corner kick by Casey Gentile and an assisted touch by Rachel Leal past the LaGrange keeper for her second goal of the match.
Maryville made the score 3-0 when senior Gabby Billstrom directed a long pass to sophomore Yarissa Castro. Castro, a Houston, Texas native recorded her first collegiate goal with a blast from 30-yards out.
The Scots concluded their scoring when sophomore Sarah Jeffreys trapped the ball left of the box. The DeLeon Springs, Florida native promptly sent a right foot attack into the upper right of the net for MC final goal and her first of the season.
Maryville advances to 5-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in USA South action. After their sixth consecutive scoreless effort, LaGrange falls to 1-10-2 overall and 0-7-1 in league play.
MC will challenge USA South rival Huntingdon College at home on Saturday. The match is slated for a 5:30 first touch.
