Wickman, Enrique, Defense help Scots shutout Huntingdon 2-0

Box Score

The Maryville College women's soccer program posted their seventh consecutive defensive shutout keeping USA South foe Huntingdon College out of net for a key 2-0 win on Saturday evening on MC's campus pitch.

The Scots out-shot the Hawks 7-0 in the first half but both keepers and MC's stingy defense battled to a 0-0 intermission.

MC continued to attack in the second half with a 12-2 shot advantage.

In the 68th minute, Maryville Sarah Wickman trapped a defensive miscue and turned to blast a 25-foot shot into the upper right past Huntingdon keeper Leah Leach. The eventual game-winner was Wickman's third of the season.

Just ten minutes later, Natasha Enrique saw an opportunity on the right side of the box. She dribbled past a defender and slid a goal into the lower left of the net. The strike was Enrique's third of the campaign.

Mandy Marshall earned the shutout in net with MC's entire defensive unit posting their 650th consecutive scoreless minutes.

The win advances the Scots to 6-5-1 and 6-2-1 in USA South play. Huntingdon falls to 3-7-2, 2-6-1 in league action.

Maryville will prepare to challenge Covenant in a key USA South match up in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Wednesday evening.
