Scots sweep MacMurray 8-2, 10-8

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Maryville College baseball team claimed their 7th consecutive victory with a double-header sweep of MacMurray College on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 8-2 and 10-8 on MC's Scotland Yard.

In the series opener, the visiting Highlanders got on the board in the first inning taking advantage of a lead-off walk. MacMurray's Drew Johnson earned the game's first RBI with a ground ball to second base scoring Collin Antoine.

The Scots captured the lead in the bottom of the second when catcher Evan Ezell blasted a two-out homerun over the left field fence scoring Chris Ervin who led off the inning with a bunt single. The long ball was Ezell's first as a Fighting Scot.

Maryville doubled their lead in the bottom of the third when Chris Ervin laced a two-out single to left field scoring Andrew Henry and Logan Jenkins.

Leading 4-1, Maryville added a run on a Highlander miscue. Logan Jenkins, who had walked earlier, scampered home on a wild pitch making the score 5-1 after five complete innings.

MC senior right-hander Seth Debity (2-1) kept the visiting hitters off-balance through seven complete innings. He scattered four hits while surrendering only one earned run, striking out three.

MacMuray got on the scoreboard in the eighth when Drake Hardin lined a Samuel Joiner fastball up the middle scoring Brenden Pesko.

The Scots answered in the bottom of the eighth when Ezell tallied his third RBI with a single before Tyler Bigler completed the scoring with a two-run blast.

Joiner closed the door with a second inning of relief, allowing an earned run on three hits.

Maryville's 10-hit attack was supported by Ervin, Ezell, and Lawler each posting a pair of hits. Ezell finished with three runs driven in while Ervin and Bigler each drove home a pair.

In the second game, the Scots erupted for five runs in the first inning. A 2-RBI single by Zack Blonder and an RBI single by Chris Ervin made the score 3-0 before MC added a pair of unearned runs.

A Blonder sacrifice fly made the score 6-0 and Tyler Bigler's second homerun of the day put MC up 7-0 after the first three innings.

Key RBIs by Lawler and Bigler in the fourth gave MC a 9-1 advantage before the Highlanders stormed back with five runs on five hits in the top of the sixth.

Maryville's Jeremy Ibarra (2-1) earned the victory on the mound scattering 10 hits over 5.2 innings of work. Jordan Norton and Joe Jones combined to toss 3.1 innings of hitless relief to preserve the win. Jones recorded his second career save and first of the season.

The Scots' 13 hit offensive attack was paced by Zack Blonder's 3-for-4 effort. The senior drove in three runs while scoring two. Clifton Dempsey, Andrew Henry, and Logan Jenkins each finished with a pair of hits.

Maryville (7-2) will host the Highlanders of MacMurray College on Sunday to concluded the three-game non-conference series. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
