Box Score Behind a 3-for-4, 3-RBI effort by Chris Ervin and a strong starting performance by Lawson Wishard on the mound, the Maryville College baseball team collected their 8th consecutive victory with a 12-3 win over MacMurray College on Sunday afternoon concluding a non-conference three-game series.
MacMurray opened the final game of the series with three consecutive walks from MC hurler Lawson Wishard. The senior left-hander induced a double play, scoring the lead-off hitter, and a lazy fly ball to get out of the inning allowing only one run.
A pair of bases loaded walks, an errant throw by the visiting Highlanders, and a three-run homerun by MC designated hitter Chris Ervin gave Maryville a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
A two-out RBI single by Zack Blonder followed by a RBI double by Ervin put the Scots up 9-1 after three complete innings.
MacMurray tallied a pair of runs on three hits in the top of the 5th inning making the score 9-3 in favor of the Scots.
MC's Johnny Carpenter led off the bottom of the 5th with a laser dinger that cleared the left field bleachers. The blast gave Maryville a 10-3 advantage.
Shortstop Tyler Bigler stroked a one-out single to left field driving home Ervin who earlier doubled down the right field line. After five complete innings, the Scots led 11-3.
A Zack Blonder double to left field in the sixth completed the scoring after scoring Logan Jenkins.
After a rough first inning, Maryville's Lawson Wishard settled down for five strong innings for the win. Wishard (2-0) struck out four while scattering four hits allowing only a pair of earned runs. Jeremy Haggerty, Austin Delozier, Jerod Dickey, and Nick McClendon each finished with an inning of work on the mound collectively only allowing three hits.
Maryville's 13-hit attack was paced by Ervin along with Andrew Henry (2-for-4), Zack Blonder (2-for-4, 3 RBIs), and Tyler Bigler (2-for-2).
The Scots (8-2) will host Emory & Henry College on Wednesday, February 24th for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch on MC's Scotland Yard.
