Carpenter's bat, Debity's arm lift Scots past Hawks 7-3

Box Score

The Maryville College baseball team, ranked No. 26 nationally, earned their 19th win of the season with a 7-3 USA South victory over Huntingdon College on Friday evening on MC's Scotland Yard.

The Scots' bats pounded out 11 hits off a pair of Hawk hurlers. Maryville's Johnny Carpenter paced the offense with a 3-for-5 effort that included a double, a pair of solo homeruns, and two RBIs.

While Carpenter was establishing a lead for Maryville, senior right-hander Seth Debity scattered seven hits over seven complete innings to earn his sixth win of the season on the mound. Debity (6-2) pushed his inning total to 51 this season with a stellar 2.28 ERA. Sophomore right-hander Jerod Dickey allowed only a pair of hits over the final two innings to close the door on the Hawks offense.

Maryville scored a pair of runs in the first on Carpenter's solo blast to left field before Tyler Bigler singled in Zack Blonder with an RBI stroke to right field.

The Scots added a trio of runs in the third inning when shortstop Brendan Lawler (2-for-4, 2 RBI) doubled to left field scoring Chris Ervin and Johnny Carpenter. The next batter, Evan Ezell, sent Lawler home with an RBI single to right center field.

Carpenter's dinger just left of the scoreboard gave MC a 6-1 advantage in the sixth inning.

Huntingdon rallied for a run in each of the 7th and 8th innings before MC's Zack Blonder (2-for-4, .406 on the season) completed the scoring with an RBI single to left field in the eighth scoring Logan Jenkins.

The victory moved MC to 19-7 on the season and 9-4 in USA South play. Huntingdon falls to 15-11 and 5-5 within league challenges.

The USA South series will continue on Saturday with a double header scheduled to begin at 1:00 on MC's Scotland Yard. Coach Cody Church and his staff will honor their 11 seniors at approximately 12:30 before the first pitch.
