Box Score MC's Greg Vourloumis deposited a grand slam in the eighth inning to help lift the Maryville College Scots past Covenant 5-1 to complete a three-game USA South sweep of the visiting Georgian Scots.
Covenant touched MC starter Lawson Wishard for a run in the first inning when Caleb Bloye drove in Luke Harvey with an RBI single to right field.
Covenant starter Drew Bradley and reliever Ray Brooks combined for over five innings of six-hit, zero run pitching.
Maryville got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when Mackenzie Jackson and Brendan Lawler pulled off the perfect double steal with Jackson stealing home to even the score 1-1.
Vourloumis' heroics were set in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, Covenant intentionally walked MC designated hitter Chris Ervin to load the bases. Vourloumis' deposited the first pitch he saw all day onto Honaker Field scoring Ervin, Johnny Carpenter, and Logan Jenkins.
Maryville's 10-hit attack was paced by Ervin going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
MC's Lawson Wishard went five innings, scattering six hits allowing only one earned run. Jordan Norton earned his first win of the season after going the final four innings allowing only one hits and striking out five.
The win moves Maryville to 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in USA South challenges. Covenant falls to 8-8 on the season while dropping to 2-4 in league play.
Maryville will now prepare to host Averett University next weekend in a three-game USA South series.
