Box Score The Maryville College baseball team finished their USA South schedule for the spring with a 6-5 victory in 15 innings over the LaGrange College Panthers on Sunday evening in LaGrange, Georgia.
Maryville's Sam Jokerst lined a single to left field scoring Dan Oaklief for the game-winning run in the top of the 15th. Jordan Norton, in his third inning in relief, closed the door to earn the win on the mound for Maryville (25-13, 10-8 USA South). The victory earns the Scots a No. 4 seed in the upcoming USA South tournament in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
MC got on the scoreboard first when Andrew Henry singled to center field scoring Johnny Carpenter in the fourth inning.
The Scots pushed a pair of runs across the plate in the fifth inning when Zack Blonder drove in Tyler Bigler and Logan Jenkins to make the score 3-0.
Maryville's Lawson Wishard kept the hot bats of LaGrange at bay through the first four innings. The Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single and an RBI triple by Blane Swift. As Wishard departed, the senior lefty limited LaGrange to only four hits in 5.1 innings of work.
LaGrange tied the game in the eighth when Joe Pradat placed an infield single to score James Poroopatic.
In the 13th, Maryville made a move for the victory when Jokerts scored Henry with an RBI single to the opposite field and Clifton Dempsey plated Jokerst with a single up the middle.
The 5-3 lead was short lived as the Panthers pushed for more innings when they tallied a pair of unearned runs making the score 5-5.
Jokerst (2-for-6) saved his best for last in the 15th with his game winning single. MC's 13-hit attack was paced by Tyler Bigler (3-for-6) and Andrew Henry (3-for-6).
After Wishard's strong start, the strong relief of Evan Heffner, Jerod Dickey, Joe Jones, and Norton sealed the tough road win.
The loss moves LaGrange to 27-11 and 13-5 in USA South play.
Maryville will host Centre College on Tuesday at 4:00 to close out their regular season schedule. The Scots, as the 4th seed, will take on Methodist University on Thursday, April 14th at 1:00 in opening round action of the 2016 USA South tournament in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. They will be playing at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, North Carolina.
