Box Score A pair of two error innings gave No.7 Emory University a cushion to cruise to an 8-4 victory over Maryville College on Saturday afternoon at the Eagles' Chappell Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Scots (21-10) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Andrew Henry laced a one-out double down the right field line before Greg Vourloumis singled to put runners on the corners. Coach Cody Church called for the hit and run and Evan Ezell sent Henry home with a groundout.
Emory (22-7) answered in the third when a pair of infield errors and a sacrifice set the table for Wilson Morgan. Morgan earned an RBI on a groundout scoring an unearned run in MC starter Seth Debity.
The Eagles pulled ahead in the fourth when Chris Slivka deposited a two-out homerun, his first of the season, over the left-center field fence giving Emory a 3-1 advantage.
Emory took advantage of a pair of Maryville miscues in the fifth to plate a trio of unearned runs.
Entering the sixth inning with a 6-1 lead, Emory's Slivka lifted a solo blast for his second dinger of the day and his season-high third RBI of the game making the score 7-1.
The host tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Chris Young stroked a two-out RBI single giving the Eagles an 8-1 advantage.
The Scots would not go quietly in their last at bat. Chris Ervin led off with a hit by pitch. Andrew Henry connected for his second double of the afternoon. Pinch hitter Robbie Young drove in Ervin with a single to left field. Lead-off hitter tallied MC's final pair of runs with a two-out, two RBI single making the final 8-4.
Logan Jenkins and Andrew Henry provided four of the Scots' nine hits on the day.
MC's Debity (6-3) suffered the loss on the mound after scattering eight hits in 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs. Emory's Hans Hansen (6-1) earned the win after allowing only six hits over 8.1 innings of work.
Maryville, 5-6 over their last 11 games, will look to bounce back on Sunday as they take on Emory University once again in Atlanta.
