Lukas' header send Scots past Covenant 1-0

The Maryville College women's soccer program defeated the USA South western division leading Covenant College Scots 1-0 on Wednesday evening on MC's campus pitch.

 

Just after the 19th minute in the first half, Maryville's Casey Gentile lined up a free kick right of the box. The senior from Cape Coral, Florida found sophomore Miranda Lukas at the left front of the keeper and the fellow Cape Coral native deposited a header past Covenant's Rachel Lemay in goal.

 

The 1-0 lead at the half was supported by Maryville's six shots to only a pair for Covenant.

 

In the second half, the visiting Scots went on the offensive out shooting Maryville 6-1.

 

Maryville's Mandy Marshall earned the win and shutout in goal after turning away Covenant's only two shots on goal.

 

The loss moves Covenant to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in USA South action. Maryville advances to 2-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.

 

Maryville will now prepare to travel to Agnes Scott and Wesleyan (Ga.) this weekend for USA South matches.
