Big inning sends Vikings past Scots 8-4

Box Score

A 4-3 lead in the sixth by the Maryville College baseball team was quickly erased by a five-run outburst by Berry College allowing the Vikings to claim an 8-4 NCAA Division III challenge in Rome, Georgia on Wednesday evening.

A Johnny Carpenter single to left-center plated a pair of unearned Maryville runs following a Viking miscue in the third inning.

MC's 3-0 lead was short-lived when Berry's McTier Mosley placed an RBI single up the middle before Austin Brooks doubled to plate an unearned run.

Berry tied the game 3-3 in the fifth when Devin Skelton scored on a fielder's choice.

The Scots took their last lead in the sixth 4-3 when Bryce Redaja doubled down the right-field line scoring Evan Ezell.

The Vikings' five-run rally was led by Kris Patel's two-out, three-RBI double to left-center. Jacob Delk and Devin Post singled in consecutive RBI's to complete Berry's five unearned runs scored.

Maryville (3-5) was paced at the plate by Evan Ezell and Alden Wright who each recorded a pair of hits.

Berry (6-3) recorded a dozen hits during the victory. Firstbaseman Kris Patel paced the Vikings with a 3-for-4 effort with a pair of runs scored and three runs driven in.

The Scots will host USA South rival Piedmont College for a three-game series this weekend on MC's Scotland Yard. Friday's first-pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
