Box Score Huntingdon College's Zach McGrady held the Maryville College Scots to eleven hits over eight innings of work on the mound to help the Hawks to a 10-5 series opening victory in Montgomery, Alabama late Friday evening.
The Huntingdon offense tallied ten runs over the first five innings off four MC hurlers. Key RBI hits by Joseph Calvert, Michael Rodda, and Taylor Fought followed by a solo homerun by Hunter Long featured the Hawk's scoring efforts.
Maryville finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning when McKenzie Jackson blasted his second career homerun scoring Gavin Dooley and Michael Hawks.
The Scots fought back with another pair of runs in the eighth when Joey Tomlinson and Andrew Garcia dashed home on a Michael Hawks two-RBI double to right center field.
MC's Tomlinson paced the Scots' 11-hit attack by going 2-for-2 with nine other teammates collecting at least one hit.
Evan Heffner (2-3) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing four earned runs over 3.1 innings. Huntingdon's McGrady moves to 3-5 on the bump after striking out five Scots.
The win lifts Huntingdon to 8-16 on the season and 5-5 in USA South action. Maryville falls to 14-13 overall and 7-6 in league challenges.
Both squads will battle in game two of the series on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Montgomery.
