Sipos' Hat-Trick lifts Scots past Millsaps 6-0

Box Score

The Maryville College women's soccer program cruised to a 6-0 shutout victory over Millsaps College in the 2017 Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.

Knoxville native and freshman forward Bailey Sipos recorded a hat trick with a trio of goals against the Majors giving the collegiate rookie four goals on the season.

The Scots lit up the scoreboard just before the second minute of the challenge. Abbie Anderson, a freshman from Maryville, Tennessee, tallied her first collegiate goal with an assist by Shannon Reagan past Millsaps keeper Olivia Gattuso.

Twenty minutes later, Maryville's Kara Tubb assisted to Sipos for her first goal of the afternoon giving MC a 2-0 advantage.

The Scots outshot the Majors 14-1 in the first half. Maryville's Shannon Reagan finished one of the many offensive attacks with a goal in the 28th minute following a pass from Jenna Clothier.

Maryville took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.

The Scots continued their torrid offensive pace closing out the second half with a 15-1 shooting advantage.

At the 55:48 mark Sipos put MC up 4-0 with a strike into the net following an Abbie Anderson assist. Only nine seconds later Hannah Clothier deposited her first goal of the season giving the Scots a 5-0 lead. Lexie Hill was credited with the assist.

Sipos and Clothier's back-to-back goals in only nine seconds tie them as the fourth fastest consecutive goals, same team in the NCAA record book.

Maryville concluded their scoring in the 57th minute with the culmination of Sipos' hat trick with an unassisted strike.

The trio of Rachel Taylor, Spencer Ann Mitchell, and Abbey Coleman combined for the win in net for Maryville. Millsaps' Gattuso recorded 15 saves in net but suffered the loss after MC out-shot the Majors 29-2 on the afternoon.

The setback drops Millsaps to 0-3 on the young season. Maryville has earned back-to-back victories giving them a 2-1-1 record for the season.

Maryville will conclude the Rhodes Invitational on Sunday challenging the host Lynx at 11:00 a.m.
