Scots defeat Sewanee 10-1

Box Score

Maryville College's Michael Hawks tossed a quality start while the Scots' offense banged out 18 hits to defeat The University of the South 10-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Sewanee, Tennessee.

The Scots led off the first inning with back-to-back two-out singles by Johnny Carpenter and Alden Wright. Bryce Redaja promptly doubled to right field scoring a pair of runs. Christian Poulsen traded places with Redaja with an RBI double of his own to make the score 3-0.

Sewanee tallied their first run in the second inning when Jake Woolard grounded out while driving in Jared Demkowicz who earlier singled off MC starter Michael Hawks.

Christian Poulsen came up with the bases loaded in the third inning and drove in Johnny Carpenter with a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1 in favor of Maryville.

Carpenter garnered an RBI in the fourth when he grounded out to shortstop to score Hayden Hollingsworth who earlier walked, stole second, and stole third.

MC's Bryce Redaja led off the fifth inning blasting his second home run of the season over the right-field fence to make the score 6-1.

Patrick Messinger led off the eighth inning with a double down the right-field line. He scampered home on a Johnny Carpenter RBI single through the left side. Alden Wright singled to opposite field scoring Andrew Henry who earlier walked. A failed pickoff attempt sent Carpenter home to make the score 9-1.

MC pushed the score to 10-1 in the eighth after pinch-hitter Joey Rembisz stroked a double to right-field plating pinch-runner McKenzie Jackson.

Hawks, a senior left-hander, scattered four hits over five innings of work. He struck out four Tigers while allowing only one earned run. Sophomore right-hander Joe Logsdon has a strong outing in middle relief striking out two in two innings while not allowing a hit or walk. Austin Delozier tossed a perfect eighth before Zach Price closed the door for the non-conference road victory.

Maryville's offense was paced by Redaja's 4-for-5, 3 RBI effort. Carpenter went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Alden Wright, Joey Rembisz, and Mike Homan each added a pair of hits.

Maryville (15-2) will prepare to host USA South rival Huntingdon College for a three-game series this weekend. Friday's game will begin on Scotland Yard at 4:00 p.m. Head Men's Basketball Coach Randy Lambert and his 2018 USA South Championship squad will be honored before the game and Coach Lambert will throw out the first pitch.
