Box Score 2 The Maryville College baseball team fell to 15-13 on the season and 5-8 in USA South play after dropping a league doubleheader on Saturday to No. 20 ranked LaGrange College by the scores of 6-2 and 11-1.
After taking the first game of the series on Friday by the score of 11-9, Maryville took the Panthers to 2-2 through the first four innings during their first challenge on Saturday.
Maryville used a sacrifice fly by Drew Johnson to score Logan Hayes in the first inning before Eric Hart recorded an RBI on a groundout in the fourth.
LaGrange's EJ Churchich broke the tie with a solo blast in the sixth before Jack Layrisson deposited a two-run shot over the right field fence to make the score 5-2.
The Panthers tallied an insurance run in the ninth on a wild pitch.
Logan Hayes finished 3-for-5 for the Scots while Christian Poulsen added a 2-for-4 effort. The duo had five of the Scots eight total hits.
In the nightcap, LaGrange put up crooked numbers in three consecutive innings to cruise to a 10-run league victory. The Panther's Austin Fain (4-0) held Maryville to only a pair of hits over six innings while a pair of relievers allowed only three additional MC hits over the final three innings. LaGrange took advantage of a 10 hit offensive attack, 10 walks, and seven Maryville miscues to record 11 runs.
The Scots will travel to Emory, Virginia on Tuesday to challenge Emory & Henry College in a non-conference road matchup. Maryville will welcome USA South foe William Peace University to Scotland Yard for a key three-game series beginning on next Friday at 7:00 p.m.
