Box Score Maryville College junior right-hander Jordan Davis tossed a complete game four-hitter while striking out 12 to help the Scots defeat USA South foe Berea College 5-0 on Friday evening in Berea, Kentucky.
MC's offense backed up Davis' effort with 10 hits including a 3-for-5 effort from senior second baseman Logan Hayes.
The Scots pushed across a pair of runs in the second inning when Logan Hayes doubled to score Ryan Jones. Kolton Hicks scored later in the inning on a Berea error.
Maryville extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning when Hayes tripled to left center sending Gabe Lopez home. A Christian Poulsen RBI single sent Hayes plate-ward.
MC tallied an insurance run in the eighth inning when Lopez drew a bases-loaded RBI walk.
Third baseman Mike Homan finished 2-for-5 at the plate joining Hayes as the only Scots with multiple hits.
Davis advances to 3-3 on the season with 62 innings of work, 62 strikeouts, and a sub-2.00 ERA.
Maryville advances to 19-14 on the season and 8-9 in USA South action. The Scots will take on the Mountaineers once again on Saturday in Kentucky.
