Frizen's third goal of the season not enough as No. 20 Lynchburg defeats Scots 2-1

The Maryville College women's soccer program dropped their first match of the season with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of No. 20 ranked University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Fighting Scots forward Taylor Frizen deposited an unassisted goal in the 26th minute to put Maryville up 1-0. The strike was her third of the season for the sophomore from Knoxville.

The nationally ranked Hornets evened the score just over a minute later when Madalyn Amos directed an assist towards Georgie Duggan. The senior midfielder directed the game-tying goal past MC keeper Abbey Coleman to knot the game at one apiece.

The hard-fought match that featured 17 shots by Lynchburg versus seven by the Scots was broke open in the 65th minute. Taylor Stevens found Sarah Barnes for her first goal of the season for the eventual game-winning goal.

Lynchburg's Caitlin Dorsch earned the win in net with four saves on five Mc shots on goal.

Maryville falls to 2-1 on the season while Lynchburg advances to 2-1.

The MC women will travel to Roanoke College on Sunday to finish off their Virginia non-conference swing. Sunday's match is schedule for a 2:00 p.m. start.
