Box Score Maryville College used a 15-hit offensive attack to sweep a home-opening series from MacMurray College on Sunday by the score of 11-5.
The Scots, hitting .332 on the season as a unit, were paced by sophomore shortstop Gabe Lopez. Lopez finished 3-for-5 scoring three times while driving in a trio of runs. Senior designated hitter Alden Wright went 2-of-3 while Derek Hurt and Cody Gregory each tallied a pair of RBI.
Rookie right-hander Chris Arbuthnot earned his first collegiate victory on the mound after scattering seven hits over five innings allowing just one earned run. Trevor Townsend struck out a pair in two innings of relief before Jacob Hanson and Andrew Miller each closed the door with scoreless innings on the mound.
Maryville's key five-run first inning was highlighted by Derek Hurt's two-RBI single off the centerfield wall. Cody Gregory followed with a two-RBI double down the left-field line giving MC a 5-0 advantage.
The Scots added a run in the second inning when Kolton Hicks sent Lopez home on an RBI single to left field.
Gabe Lopez and Jimmy Meredith each tallied key RBI in the Scots' third inning making the score 9-1.
Maryville finished their scoring in the sixth when Lopez doubled to left-center field scoring Jack Shuttleworth and Kendall Catlett.
The Scots (5-1) will enter USA South action next weekend when they travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia to challenge Covenant College in a three-game series.
