Box Score The Maryville College baseball team opened the 2020 spring season with a thrilling 2-1 loss at the hands of Berry College on Bowdoin Field in Rome, Georgia on Tuesday evening.
The Vikings tallied a pair of runs in the first inning off sacrifice flies by Spence Johns and Quinn Smith.
The Scots cut Berry's lead in half in the third inning when Kolton Hicks scored on a throwing error after an Alden Wright single to right field.
Maryville's Jordan Davis was stellar on the mound going six innings scattering five hits. The senior right-hander allowed only one earned run while striking out five. Junior reliever Jacob Gossett did not allow a hit over the final pair of scoreless innings.
The Scots' eight-hit offensive attack was paced by senior left-fielder Cody Gregory. Gregory went 3-for-4 with a double. Third baseman Kolton Hicks finished 2-for-4 scoring MC's lone run. Alden Wright, Ian Campbell, and Gabe Lopez each tallied singles against the Vikings staff.
Maryville will prepare to travel to Atlanta, Georgia next weekend to play Oglethorpe University in a three-game series.
