Box Score Maryville College Baseball earned the three-game sweep over USA South foes Huntingdon College on Sunday, as the Scots took game three, 11-0.
The Hawks came into the weekend series with an impressive 7-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark in USA South play. The Orange and Garnet took the three-game sweep, posting an incredible 47 hits and 31 RBI to outscore the conference foes, 36-9.
MC followed Kolton Hicks, Cody Gregory and Ian Campbell in the final game, as Hicks finished the contest with a 2-for-4 effort with three RBI, two runs and a walk.
Gregory was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI, while Campbell went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Alden Wright added a 3-for-5 effort with a run and an RBI.
Sophomore Damian Lusby earned his first win of the 2020 season, going eight complete innings of scoreless ball on the mound. He struck out eight Hawks, while giving up just six hits and one walk.
MC got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning, as Jimmy Meredith walked before a Wright single. Gregory placed an RBI single through the left side, scoring Meredith from third for a 1-0 MC lead.
Both squad went scoreless until the fifth inning, when Maryville would plate four runs. An error and a walk put a pair of runners on, before Wright's RBI single to left-center scored Meredith from second. Gregory followed suit with an RBI of his own through the right side to score Hurt, as the Scots loaded the bases with a Will Hubbell single. Hicks promptly placed a two-RBI single up the middle, scoring Gregory and Wright for a 5-0 Maryville lead.
The Scots would add two more in the bottom of the seventh, as Gregory found a leadoff double. Hicks plated him with a single through the left side, before Campbell scored Hicks with a single of his own. Through seven innings, MC led 7-0.
A four-run eighth would secure the 11-0 final, as singles by Meredith and Hurt put runners on. Meredith scored on a wild pitch, as Hurt followed to third. Matthew Petzelt's fielder's choice allowed Hurt to score on an errant throw, before Campbell placed a two-RBI single through the right side to score Hicks and Petzelt for the final.
D.J. Cooper came in to shut the door in the ninth, allowing just one hit and no runs in his complete inning of work.
Maryville (8-5, 3-3 USA South) followed the trio of Hicks, Gregory and Campbell with a 1-for-4 effort by Meredith who scored three runs. Hurt went 1-for-4 with two runs, while Luke McLemore added a 2-for-3 outing. Will Hubble had a hit, as Petzent scored a run for MC.
Huntingdon (7-4, 3-3) saw Overby lead their seven-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort. The Hawks spread their four other hits amongst four players.
