Box Score Maryville College Softball moved to 7-1 on the season, as the Scots' rallied in a crazy, walk-off finish against Hiram College, 7-6.
MC was down to its final inning, as the Orange and Garnet rallied for a 7-6 walk-off victory. The final inning was an up-and-down bout, as MC would earn the victory on a bases-loaded error.
Christina White doubled to lead off the inning, before Courtney Deck nearly beat out the throw on a sacrifice bunt. Jazmine Geary singled to right to score White, before Taylor Campbell and Reid Ballard drew a walk and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases.
Morgan Brewer and Kennedy Richardson earned back-to-back RBI, as Hiram threw three-straight hit-by-pitch to tie the game at 6-all. Ashton Hayden reached on a fielding error to walk it off, 7-6, with Ballard scoring.
The crazy finish earned the Scots' their fourth-straight victory, as MC followed Geary's 3-for-4, three-run, one-RBI afternoon. Campbell went 2-for-2 with a run and a pair of walks on the day, as the duo combined for five of MC's 10 hits.
The game went scoreless through three innings, before Hiram broke the silence in the top of the fourth. Giselle Bahena scored on an error to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
Maryville rallied in the bottom of the inning, as the Scots loaded the bases on back-to-back-to-back singled by Deck, Geary and Campbell. Ballard earned the RBI with a single up the middle to score Deck, before Brewer drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI to plate Geary for a 2-1 score.
Hiram plated four runs in the top of the fifth, however, to regain the lead. Giselle Chavez singled up the middle, before Victoria Garcia scored her with an RBI double to right-center. Jeskari Rodriguez's RBI single down the left-field line pushed Garcia across, as Leah Valdez's two-RBI double down the left-field line to plate Rodribuez and Bahena. The four-run inning gave Hiram a 5-2 advantage.
Mariah Sheffield added a solo home run in the top of the sixth for the Terriers, before Kennedy Richardson earned an RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Geary in the bottom of the inning, 6-3. Maryville's seventh-inning rally would give the Scots a 7-6 victory.
Maryville (7-1) followed Geary and Campbell, as Brewer went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Richardson added a pair of RBI without an at-bat, as Ballard was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Deck, white and Allison Botts had a hit each, as White and Deck each scored a run.
Freshman Kasey Monday earned her first collegiate win in the circle with 2.0 innings of relief. She allowed just one hit, as she struck out one Terrier.
Hiram (1-5) was paced by Bahena who went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs. Garcia was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, as Chavez was 2-for-3 with a run. Sheffield was 1-for-1 with a solo homer, as Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Valdez added a pair of RBI on a 1-for-4 effort.
Maryville College will look to continue their winning ways, as the Scots host N.C. Wesleyan College for non-conference action tomorrow, Sunday, March 8. First pitch for the double header is slated for noon.
