Box Score Covenant College defeated Maryville College 15-4 on Wednesday evening in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
Seven Covenant hurlers limited MC to only six hits while the host Scots took advantage of four errors, six walks, and a dozen hits to preserve the non-conference victory.
Ian Campbell picked up his team-leading 8th RBI of the season with a stroke off Covenant's Aaron Northcutt to left field scoring Jimmy Meredith in the first inning. Campbell came around to score off a Jack Shuttleworth sacrifice fly to right-field giving Maryville a 2-0 advantage.
In the second inning, Covenant took advantage of a leadoff double and a hit batter off MC's Michael Holmes to post their initial run of the game. A stolen base by Ken Burke and throwing error cut Maryville's lead in half as Brooks DuBose dashed plateward on the miscue. Covenant's Burke later scored on a wild pitch to even the score 2-2 after a pair of complete innings.
The Georgian Scots took the lead in the third when McKaleb Harlemon singled to left-field off Maryville reliever Braden Caldwell driving in Tyler Moore.
Designated hitter Josh Harvey blasted an opposite field two-run homerun off MC reliever Tommy Musuras in the fifth inning. Hunter Christian completed back-to-back blasts for Covenant with a dinger over the left-field fence giving the host Scots a 6-2 lead after five complete innings.
Maryville rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh when junior outfielder Ian Campbell led off the inning with his third homerun of the season with a deep drive over the left-field fence. Carter Crow pinch ran for Matthew Turner, who earlier singled, and crossed home plate on a Covenant fielding error.
Covenant answered in the bottom of the seventh with a Lewis Saunders single and stolen base before Tyler Moore singled through the left side for an RBI scoring Saunders. Hunter Christian put Moore on the scoreboard with a two-out RBI single to right-center field making the score 8-4.
Covenant posted three straight singles in the eighth to load the bases off MC reliever Luke McLemore. A Maryville miscue added a run for the Scots before D.J. Cooper took the mound for Maryville. A pair of wild pitches and a hit batter brought Jacob Gossett to the mound with MC trailing 12-4. Brooks DuBose added a three-run homer, his third of the season, to make the score 15-4.
Covenant (5-3) was paced offensively by Hunter Christian, Brooks DuBose, and Harrison Adelgren each tallied a pair of hits with DuBose, Christian, Josh Harvey, and Tyler Moore combining for nine runs driven in.
Maryville (2-4) was led by Ian Campbell with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with a pair of runs scored while recording his 8th and 9th RBI of the season.
Maryville will travel to LaGrange College this weekend to play a non-conference series against the Panthers. MC will play a doubleheader on Saturday and conclude the series on Sunday.
