Pitching, MC's 14-hit attack too much for Edgewood, 9-4

Box Score 1

Maryville College Baseball followed a 14-hit attack and a pair of good outings on the mound Saturday, as the Scots defeated Edgewood College, 9-4!

MC's Gabe Lopez hit 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and two runs, while Jimmy Meredith followed suit with a 3-for-5 day, adding two RBI and a run. Nelson Smith hit 3-for-5, as well, as the trio tallied 10 of MC's 14 hits.

On the mound, Damian Lusby earned the win in six innings pitched. The junior right-hander tossed seven strikeouts against the Eagles, walking only one.

Tommy Mursuras earned the save, tossing three complete innings of shutout ball. Mursuras posted four strikeouts without allowing a single hit, as he walked just two batters.

Edgewood (0-4) got on the board first, as Joseph Kalafut doubled to lead off the game. An Alex Prindle single allowed the Eagles to score on a Kyle Sagan double for a 1-0 lead early.

Maryville (3-7) knotted things up in the bottom of the inning, as Lopez led on with a single. He scored on a Meredith RBI for a 1-1 ballgame through one inning.

A pair of singles in the bottom of the second was promptly followed by a Lopez two-RBI triple. Kolton Hicks and Luke McLemore scored, before Meredith added his second RBI with a single to left. After two innings, Maryville led 4-1.

Back-to-back doubles by Prindle and Sagan added a pair of runs for Edgewood in the top of the third, before the Scots got one back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI by Hicks.

A Kalafut solo home run in the top of the fifth made the score 5-4, before a pair of two-run innings in the sixth and eighth secured the win for MC, 9-4.

Hicks scored on an error, before a bases-loaded walk plated Meredith in the seventh. A RBI fielder's choice and an error plated two for the Scots in the eighth.

Hicks was 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Will Hubbell went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Jack Shuttleworth was 1-for-4 with a run, as McLemore matched him. Matthew Turner had an RBI, while Campbell added a run.

For Edgewood, it was Kalafut that went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Sagan was 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Prindle was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. The trio accounted for each of the Eagles' hits, runs and RBI.
