Box Score MARYVILLE – The Maryville College Scots closed out the Maryville College Classic on Saturday afternoon, falling to Bridgewater College, 3-0.
MC's Sophie Turner and Sydney Mahr combined for four saves, but the Eagles' Sydney Davis posted seven stops to turn away Maryville.
"Coming back from the overtime, but it's like I told the girls, it's still early season," Head Coach Pepe Fernandez said. "We wanted to play really good competition. We had good moments, but we're just not ready to put together a complete game. When we do put together a complete game, we're going to be a very good team. When you lose as many seniors as we did last year, it takes a while, especially offensively, to get back together. I think this team is just a little bit away from pulling it together, but once they do, they're going to be pretty good."
Maryville outshot Bridgewater, 11-10, as the two squads matched with seven shots on frame.
MC's Sierra Lee had two shots – both on target – while Hailey Cartt added three. Bailey Sipos also had a pair of shots, as both she and Cartt had one shot on frame.
Maggie Wilson, Taylor Anderson and Katie O'Brien had a shot on goal each.
Bridgewater got the scoring started in the 34th minute, as Skyler Daum collected a steal just outside the box. She shot it from 18 yards, deflecting it off the keeper and into the lower right corner for a 1-0 score where it would remain at the half.
In the 79th minute, Angel Finch scored on a long Cross from Lauren Pion into the 6-yard mark to make it 2-0, before and 89th-minute goal made the final score 3-0.
Ashley Sabatino scored it, as Sydney Davis and Daum added assists.
Maryville will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 . The Scots play host to Berry College with a 7:00 p.m. first touch.
