Maryville Caps Impressive Weekend

Box Score

Scots Hold Undefeated Sewanee to 0-0 Draw

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Maryville put the first blemish on Sewanee's perfect record by playing the host Tigers to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon.

The Scots finished an impressive 2-0-1 week by holding Sewanee scoreless for the first time this season and halting the Tigers' 5-0-0 start to the season.

The Scots posted a win and a draw in two games on the Sewanee turf over the weekend, knocking off LeTourneau 1-0 Saturday. Maryville began its three-game run with a 1-0 home victory against Berry on Wednesday night.

The Maryville defense is riding a streak of 291 minutes of scoreless soccer since Bridgewater tallied in the closing minutes of a 3-0 decision back on Sept. 11.

"It was a great weekend for us," Scots head coach Pepe Fernandez said. "Back-to-back games on turn is tough. We are really happy that our defense has gone three games and not given up a goal."

Sewanee outshot Maryville 13-6, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, and they had seven corners to Maryville's two. There were 33 fouls in the game, including 22 on the Tigers.

The Scots, now 2-3-2, continue a busy stretch with upcoming games Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

They host Warren Wilson on Tuesday as part of a women's and men's doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m., and then they travel to Atlanta on Wednesday night to take on Emory. USA South Conference play begins Saturday at home against Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. kick.
