Scots Conclude Pre-Conference Slate

Maryville Drops 4-0 Decision at No. 11 Emory

ATLANTA – Maryville wrapped up the pre-USA South Conference portion of its schedule with a 4-0 loss at No. 11-ranked Emory.

The host Eagles scored twice in each half in improving to 7-0-1 for the season. It was Emory's sixth consecutive shutout. Maryville saw its four-game undefeated streak come to and halt, and the Scots stand 3-4-2.

"They were a good team," Maryville head coach Pepe Fernandez said. "We just were not able to sustain anything offensively.

"We try and play the best schedule possible so we can be ready for conference play, and we have accomplished that in these first few weeks. October and November are what really counts, and our team understands that. We are really excited to face our conference rivals."

The Scots host Wesleyan on Saturday at 2 p.m. to begin their eight-game conference slate. Maryville was picked in the preseason for first place in the Western Division by the USA South coaches.

Maryville goalkeeper Sophie Turner faced 31 shots, including 14 on goal, and made 10 saves. Emory outshot Maryville 31-1.
