CCS Release
Â
MARYVILLE – Regular season champion Maryville landed a pair of major awards in men's basketball from the Collegiate Conference of the South.
Â
The league coaches selected
Myles Rasnick as Player of the Year and
Chase Morgan as Sixth Man of the Year. Rasnick was an All-CCS First Team pick, while Morgan and
Charlie Cochran earned Second Team honors.
Â
Rasnick ranks fourth in the conference in scoring at 18.3, but he's first in free throw percentage at 93.1, first in steals at 2.4, first in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.8, third in assists at 4.1, third in blocked shots with 16, fourth in minutes played at 34.0, fifth in field goal percentage at 48.7, 12th in 3-pointers made per game at 1.4 and 15th in rebounding at 4.8.
Â
"He's obviously very deserving," Scots head coach
Raul Placeres said. "He ranked among the league leaders in many categories, including first in steals and the third-most blocks – on top of what he did offensively. He is very consistent on both ends of the floor and really embodies what a player of the year should be.
Â
"Numbers-wise, he improved in scoring, assists and steals –three of the most important categories at his position. That's the mark of a big-time player."

Â
Sixth-Man Battle
Morgan in his rookie season averages 8.5 points and 3.1 boards. He has reached double figures in points in seven of the last eight games, including consecutive 20-point efforts at Huntingdon and at home against Covenant.
Â
"Chase had a fantastic finish to the year," Placeres said. "He or Charlie as Sixth Man of the Year – that could have gone either way because they had very similar numbers in league play. The strength of our team has been our depth all year long.
Â
"I'm happy that Chase was able to win that award and that he was recognized as one of the top players in our league."
Â
Cochran has been a force during Maryville's current eight-game winning streak. He has double-doubles in three of the last five games to move into a tie for the conference lead in that category with seven. Cochran is second on the team in both points at 12.4 and rebounds at 6.8, ranking 11th and fourth in the CCS, respectively.
Â
"I thought he had first-team numbers, but I'm really proud of what he has done and how he has finished off the year," Placeres said. "I'm really happy that he's at least mentioned as an all-conference performer, because he was an all-conference performer."
Â
Other Scots who garnered consideration for postseason honors included
Jose Rodriguez, who was the league's top rebounder in conference play, and
Jackson Garner, who was top 20 in scoring, had one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios and was top-five in both 3-point shooting categories.
Â
"And let's not forget the job
Daryl Rice has done all year long at the point guard position," Placeres said.

Â
Sportsmanship Award
Maryville's honoree on the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team was
Hayden Treadwell, who was nominated by the Scots coaching staff. Treadwell this week joined teammate
Kordell Kah on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Â
"Hayden and Kordell, I'm really proud of both of them," Placeres said. I'm a big believer that there's a big correlation between academic success and on-the-court performance.
Â
"Hayden has been good for us as a role player off the bench. He works extremely hard and he's one of the best teammates we've got. He has the highest GPA on the team and he's going to be successful going forward, I have no doubt."
Â
Maryville plays fifth-seeded Piedmont in Friday's second semifinal, with tipoff at approximately 7 p.m. Belhaven and LaGrange meet in the 5 p.m. semifinal.
Â
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the game. They are $8 for adults and $5 for youth (5-18) and seniors (55 and up), with free admission for children under 5 and Collegiate Conference of the South college students showing a student ID. Cash or card is accepted.
