Maryville Falls to Adrian, 6-4

Graham Hits Eighth Home Run in 15 Games

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Maryville lost a tough matchup on Saturday night, falling 6-4 to Adrian on Day 2 of the Greensboro Invitational.

Zac Graham hit another home run for the Scots, his eighth of the season. With the long ball, the sophomore has surpassed his home run total of seven from last season, doing so in just 14 games, compared to 35 in 2022. Graham finished the contest 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Jimmy Meredith and Max Bowers each added multi-hit performances in the matchup, picking up two hits apiece. Meredith finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored while Bowers went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Chris Arbuthnot entered the game in relief for Maryville, pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run, unearned, on just two hits while striking out three batters. The senior lowered his season ERA to 1.69 (4 ER/21.1 IP), the lowest on the staff amongst pitchers with at least 10 innings pitched. Opposing batters are hitting just .211 (16-for-17) against the righty.

MC opened the scoring in the contest, scoring two runs in the fourth inning. Zach Fritts scored on a double by Meredith, who then came around to score a run of his own on a single from Bower.

Adrian answered right back though, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game 2-2.

Maryville took the lead again in the fifth on Graham's two-run homer, but just like the inning before, Adrian fired right back, this time taking the lead 5-3 on back-to-back homers by Ryan Davis and Edward Wagner.

The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the sixth inning, as Travis Liford came around to score after reaching third base on an error, making it 6-4, where it would remain through the conclusion of the game.

Maryville returns to action on Sunday looking to avoid a tournament sweep with a win against host Greensboro. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
