Victor Icebreaker Duals Results
ROME, Ga. – Maryville's first-year program took its debut steps outdoors over the weekend, competing at the Victor Icebreaker Duals.
Â
It was a full field of 22 teams gathered on the Berry College campus, and the Maryville coaching staff was pleased with the results of this initial outdoor meet.
Â
Clarence McLean had another strong showing with a pair of top-10 results. The first-year sprinter placed fifth in the 100m with a clocking of 10.94, breaking sub-11 for the first time in his career. As of March 5, he's the fastest freshman in the country in the 100m, although many programs are not running outdoors just yet.
Â
He came back later in the day to place ninth in the 200m with a time of 22.72. Â Obviously, the coaches are pleased with his production in the early going.
Â
Other sprinting results saw
Tyler Hunter 13th in the 100m with a lifetime PR of 11.29, and
Chris Cooper 17th with a time of 11.50. Hunter finished 18th in the 200m at 23.39, which was a good start for him. Cooper placed 29th in 24.18, with
Trey Hampton right behind him in 31st in 24.64. Cooper and Hampton competed in the same heat, with Cooper getting out to a 10-to-15-meter lead only to have Hampton start catching up as the race progressed. The coaches like where they are.
Â
McLean, Hunter and Cooper are gearing up to be part of Maryville's 4x100m relay team.

Â
In the field events,
Elvin Wagner was fifth in the triple jump in 11.36 meters, or 37-3.25 feet. He has hit 40 feet in practice, so he's showing improvement. Wagner came back to finish ninth in the long jump with a personal best of 5.81 meters.
Â
Jamari Steward finished 17th in the shot put with a toss of 10.13 meters.
Cam Robinson was 19th with a top throw of 9.81 meters. Robinson was 14th in the discus at 33.12 meters, or 108 feet. The coaching staff called that a good start but they are looking for him around the 130-foot mark.
Â
Steve Cope placed 55th in the 1500m run with a time of 4:35.76, which coaches called a solid start and a good base line.
Â
Maryville is back in action March 25 at the Lee Invitational down the road in Cleveland.
