Maryville Records First CCS Series Victory

Strong Outing From Grannan Leads Scots

MARYVILLE – Maryville recorded its first CCS series victory on Monday night, defeating Covenant 8-0 at Scotland Yard.

Mitchell Grannan earned the victory on the mound. The Sophomore pitched six scoreless innings, scattering four hits and four walks while striking out eight batters.

Grannan lowered his season ERA to 2.76 (10 ER/32.2 IP), the lowest among all Maryville pitchers with at least 20 innings pitched. He has also struck out a team-high 49 batters, good for a SO/9 of 13.5.

The Chattanooga product's 49 punchouts are 22 more than his teammate with the next-highest strikeout total despite pitching 12 1/3 fewer innings on the season.

Maryville picked up 16 hits as a squad, the second most they've recorded this season, and the most since February 24, against Hanover.

Eight of MC's nine starters recorded at least one hit, with five picking up multiple knocks. Jimmy Meredith, Christian Carlton, and Will Hubbell led the squad with three hits each.

Christian Carlton

Hunter Thaxton recorded just one hit on the night, but it was a big one. The Sophomore hit a three-run home run in the first inning to kick off the scoring for Maryville. His three RBI performance was the high for the squad on the day.

Despite the Scots' offensive outburst, Thaxton's long ball was the only extra-base hit of the game for MC.

After the home run in the first inning, Maryville remained scoreless until the fifth, when Hubbell drove in Gabriel Lopez with a single through the left side of the infield.

Gabriel Lopez

Lopez came around to score again in the seventh inning, this time on a single off the bat of Carlton.

Maryville scored three more in the eighth to round out the scoring.

Nic Mirabella earned the save, pitching three scoreless innings to close out the contest. He gave up just two hits and struck out four batters while walking just one.

Nic Mirabella

Maryville is back in action on Tuesday for a mid-week matchup against Roanoke. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
