MARYVILLE – After an explosive weekend against Allegheny, Maryville's bats went quiet in the midweek as the Scots fell to Berry 10-2 Tuesday afternoon here at Scotland Yard.
MC scattered just five hits across nine innings and drew one walk. Three more batters reached base via hit-by-pitch. The Scots five knocks mark their lowest hit total this season, and their lowest since 2023's CCS championship contest against Piedmont, where they recorded just four.
Jimmy Meredith and
Max Bowers led the squad with two hits each. Designated hitter
AJ Finco picked up the Scots only other hit on the day.
Bowers recorded Maryville's only RBI, driving in
Zach Devries in the seventh inning with a single to right field to make it 5-3 before being thrown out at second trying to stretch his hit into a double.
Meredith scored Maryville's first run of the day, crossing the plate on a wild pitch after going first to third on Finco's single.
Tommy Musuras made his 2024 season debut, earning the starting nod for the first midweek game of the season. The lefty recorded the loss after four innings of work. He allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out one batter.
Following Musuras out of the pen were
Michael Holmes,
Garrett Gleason, and
Gavin Mohrman who combined to pitch the final five innings of the contest. Holmes recorded led the Scots with two strikeouts in one inning pitched in his season debut. Mohrman, making his collegiate debut, worked a scoreless 1 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit.
After a quick four-game homestand, Maryville is back on the road to play in its second of three tournaments before conference play begins. The Scots travel to High Point, N.C. to compete in the Greensboro Invitational where they'll face off against Rochester on Friday, Greensboro on Saturday, and Adrian on Sunday. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
