Late Offense Leads MC to 11th Straight Win

Scots Score Nine in Final Four Innings

BATAVIA, Ohio – A back-and-forth game for the first five innings turned into a dominant nonconference win for Maryville after scoring nine runs in the final four innings to take down Mount St. Joseph 13-6 Tuesday night.

The Scots (21-10, 10-1 CCS) entered the top of the sixth down 5-4 before exploding for five runs in the inning to take a 9-5 lead. Christian Carlton and Colin Dunworth kickstarted the inning with back-to-back walks before a single from catcher AJ Finco brought Carlton around to score and tied the game 5-5.

With Dunworth on third base, Max Bowers came to the plate and drove in his team-high third RBI on a sacrifice fly to right field, giving his squad a 6-5 lead. Bowers finished the contest 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored to go along with his three RBIs.

Jimmy Meredith dropped in an RBI single, and Zac Graham plated two with a double to center field to wrap up the offensive onslaught and give MC a 9-5 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Lions (15-16, 10-5 HCAC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring two in the first, one in the second, and two in the fourth. Maryville was able to stay in the game early though, scoring one in the second and three in the third to set themselves up for its big sixth inning.

Maryville recorded 15 hits tonight, with all nine starters recording at least one knock in the contest. Since Maryville's winning streak began 11 games ago, the Scots have recorded 10 or more hits as a squad in nine of them.

Daniel Montana, Meredith, Carlton, Dunworth, and Bowers all recorded multiple hits for the Scots. Both of Bower's knocks were of the two-base variety, giving him a team-high 12 doubles on the season. That figure is good for second in the CCS, behind only Piedmont's Trace Cate (13).

Montana extended his on-base streak to 14 games, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The DH is batting .500 during that stretch, going 25-for-50 over his last 14 games. He's picked up multiple hits nine times this season.

Bryce Einstein picked up the win for MC tonight, allowing one run on five hits across three innings in relief. The senior struck out two batters and did not walk any on his way to his second win of the 2024 season.

Chris Arbuthnot and Brandon Schlabach combined to throw the final three innings of the game, holding the Lions scoreless while allowing just one hit. They each struck out one batter.

Maryville looks to continue its winning streak Wednesday night with another Midweek matchup, this time at home against Hanover. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
