Maryville Claims CCS Women’s Commissioner’s Cup

Scots Won Two Women’s Titles, Finished Second in Volleyball

MARYVILLE –
Maryville College Women's Athletics has won the Collegiate Conference of the South Commissioner's Cup, presented for all-sports excellence in women's athletics.
 
It is the first women's all-sports trophy for the Scots since 2010.
 
MC captured CCS women's championships in soccer (regular season and tournament) and softball (tournament), while finishing second in the volleyball tournament. Maryville also collected top-four championship tournament finishes in basketball and tennis and finished third in the regular season in softball, tennis and volleyball, each result earning points toward the award.
 
Maryville finished with 53½ points, ahead of Covenant's 51 and Piedmont's 49½.

Berea scored 41½ points, Belhaven 38, Huntingdon 37½, LaGrange 26½, Agnes Scott 20½ and Wesleyan 7.
 
"It was an unbelievable year for the Scots, especially for our women," Scots Director of Athletics Sara Quatrocky said. "We are incredibly proud of their achievements, not only athletically, but also in the classroom. Our students brought home a lot of hardware and accolades and competed with immense pride for the Orange and Garnet.
 
"Our coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for the way they lead our students. Over the past four years, we have built a culture of creating success for students by focusing on their day-to-day experiences. Hopefully, this proves that if you stay within our culture, you'll find the success that makes Scots Nation so special."
 
Piedmont won the men's trophy with 45½ points. Belhaven was second with 41 points and Maryville third with 39½.

Football and women's golf compete in the USA South and do not count toward the CCS point totals.
 
Seven Championship Trophies in 2023-24
Maryville collected seven first-place league trophies overall in 2023-24, with women's soccer, men's basketball and baseball all sweeping their regular season and tournament titles and softball winning the tournament. The Scots also finished the year collecting a runner-up tournament finish in women's volleyball and advancing to the tourney semifinals in women's basketball, men's soccer and women's tennis.
 
"It has been exciting being one of the founding institutions of a new conference," Maryville soccer head coach Pepe Fernandez said. "The long history of championship teams in all sports continues at Maryville College. Congratulations to all our student-athletes who gave so much to win this award."
 
Scots softball head coach Jill Moore called it an amazing time for women's sports.
 
"To be recognized as the winner of the  CCS Commissioner's Cup is such a huge accomplishment for the female athletes at Maryville College," Moore said. "In a time where women's sports are gaining such a platform, this is so exciting for these athletes who work tirelessly every day. I am so proud of our student-athletes and grateful to be a part of this department." 
 
CCS Commissioner Beth Vansant recognized the work put in by the Scots and Lions in leading this year's charge.
 
"The performances of Maryville College and Piedmont University are a testament to their commitment to excellence both on and off the field. Congratulations to both institutions for their remarkable achievements."

Maryville missed by the slimmest of margins of winning the overall Commissioner's Cup, finishing with 93 points to Piedmont's 95. Covenant was third overall with 85 points.
