Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Maryville opened its 2024-25 season this weekend competing in the Huntingdon Invitational in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Scots faced off in matches against Division II Tuskegee and the host Hawks, winning nine of their 17 singles and doubles matches, including eight of their 13 bouts against their CCS companion, Huntingdon.
MC's lone victory against Tuskegee came in doubles play, with the duo
James Smith and
Jackson Meyer downing their DII opponents 6-4.
Kaleb Burke and
Ben Wyrick are the only two Scots to not record a loss in the contest. Burke went 3-0 (2-0 in doubles) while Wyrick went 2-0 (1-0 in doubles).
Gabriel Villalonga Serra and
Pedro Cunha picked up the Scots final doubles victory, taking down their Huntingdon opponent
Eli Cauthorn picked up a strong singles victory, defeating his Huntingdon opponent 3-6, 6-0, 10-6.
Ian Martin also played his opponent to three sets, picking up a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 victory.
Maryville returns to action Friday and Saturday, hosting the Maryville College Invitational. Matches begin at noon on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.
