Run Rule!

Scots Explode in Second and Third to Rout Adrian 11-1

High Point, N.C. - The Scots finished the Triad Invite on an explosive note, run-ruling the Adrian Bulldgos 11-1 in seven innings. 

Hot Start

Maryville started the scoring in the top of the first inning on a Colin Dunworth RBI single that brought home Reece Jordan. Two singles and a double in the second would increase the Scots' lead to 5-2 after two. In that inning, Zach Devries was walked to get things started. Matt Hall would single to left field, advancing Devries to scoring position at third. Reece Jordan would ground out to the short stop next, but allowed Hall to advance to second on the fielders choice. Det Dettwiller, who was 3/4 batting with a walk on the day, singled and brought home Devries and Hall, and advanced on the throw home by Adrian attempting to get Hall out at the plate. Frank Derner singled up the middle to allow Dettwiller to score. Derner would go 2/4 in the game with three RBI. Colin Dunworth hit his second double of the season, scoring Derner and increasing the Scots' lead to 5-0. Jacob Johnston would end the inning on a pop up to the second baseman.

Adrian would score their lone run of the game in the bottom of the second on a hard hit single up the middle that plated the runner from third. 

Insurance Runs

The Scots outpaced their four-run second inning with a six-run third. Zach Devries would start off the inning by being walked, again. Reece Jordan singled to left field, advancing Devries second with one out. Dett Dettwiller would load the bases for the Scots after beign walked. Ashton Whiteaker would start the scoring for MC in the inning after being hit by a pitch to advance Devries home and keep the bases loaded. Frank Derner missiled a ball to deep center field next at bat for a single, and would bring home Dettwiller and Jordan and advance Whiteaker to third. Colin Dunworth would single through the right side, scoring Whiteaker and putting Derner on third. 

Jacob Johnston would reach on a fielders choice that would bring home Derner. Dunworth would come home on a wild pitch and cap off the scoring in the game at 11-1 Scots. 

Complete Game!

Not to be out-done by the offensive production, freshman starting pitcher Caleb Jinks pitched a complete game, allowing only one run on six hits and no walks. After the Scots finished their scoring in the third, Jinks would give up only four hits and no runs the rest of the game, keeping Adrian, who was ranked preseason 18th, after finishing last season 33-16 and was one game away from the College World Series, at bay.

Maryville travels in the midweek to Transylvania for a Tuesday evening game before starting CCS action this weekend, hosting Belhaven on Friday and Saturday for a three game series.
