Scots Fall at Piedmont

First Loss for Maryville in over a Month

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Scots fell at Piedmont today 7-6 in extra innings in the first game of a three-game road slate to close the regular season.

Maryville fell into a 4-0 hole through the first four innings before sparking life in the seventh. With the bases loaded in that inning, Brayden Evans was able to reach home on a wild pitch for the first score of the day for the Scots. Ashton Whiteaker would then double, bringing in Colin Dunworth and Reece Jordan

The Eighth inning would see the Scots tie the game on an Evans single that scored Jacob Johnston, and then take the lead after Evans and Jay Pichardo scored on an error by the short stop after Reece Jordan singled. 6-4 Scots heading into the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Piedmont would tie the game on a two RBI double, sending the game to extra innings.

In the tenth, Reece Jordan would score to once again take the lead on an Ashton Whiteaker single. Piedmont would plate two in the bottom of the inning on an error, ending the game and giving the Scots their first loss since March 25th, over a month ago.

Even in the loss, Reece Jordan had an impressive outing, getting three hits on three at bats, three walks, two runs scored, and an RBI. Ashton Whiteaker had three RBI on two hits, and Brayden Evans was 3-5 from the plate, scoring twice with an RBI as well.

The pitching rotation for Maryville was a bit different today and will be all weekend in preparation for next week's conference tournament. Caleb Jinks started the game and threw five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks, with one strikeout. Nic Mirabella tossed two innings after Jinks, facing seven batters and striking out one and walking one, but didn't allow a hit or a run. Xavier Resto pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits with one strikeout. Mitchell Grannan would close out the game, tossing one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run (two total), and walked two.

The Scots will look to rebound tomorrow in doubleheader action to close out the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
