Scots Face Elimination

Fall to LaGrange 9-2 in Second Round

MARYVILLE - The Scots took an early 2-0 lead in the second but were shut down the rest of the game by a strong LaGrange pitching staff, falling 9-2. 

Frank Derner and Jacob Johnston both scored on sacrifice flies to get Maryville on the board, hit by Zach Devries and Brayden Evans. The Scots would go on to only have three more hits the rest of the way, one in the eighth and two in the ninth, and weren't able to capitalize on any of them. 

LaGrange took the lead thanks to an explosive fifth inning, scoring five runs on six hits. Piedmont threw three arms in the game, with starting pitcher Peralta going 3 innings, giving up two runs and two hits. Reliever Copeland, who earned the win, threw 5 innings, giving up just one hit and three walks, with no runs scored.

For the Scots, starter Kyle Timko pitched five innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits. Reliever Austin Suttle pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits. Freshman Pete Pappas, the closer, pitched a solid 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs.

The Scots will play the loser of Piedmont vs. Belhaven tomorrow at 11 AM in an elimination game. If they win, they will play the winner of the aforementioned game at 7 PM.
