Scots Fall in CCS Semis

Await NCAA Selection Comitee

MARYVILLE - The Scots found themselves in a 5-0 hole after the first frame. After returning all year from deficits, this one proved a little too much for the team, falling to Belhaven 10-4 in the CCS Tournament semifinals.

Freshman starting pitcher Kaden Wimsatt had been on a tear in recent starts but couldn't get out of the first inning after allowing five runs on three hits. Ace Kyle Timko, who pitched against against LaGrange on Thursday, came in and got out the side. Timko went on to pitch seven complete innings, striking out three batters, giving up six hits, walking one, and allowing just one (unearned) run.

Nic Mirabella came in for Timko in the eighth inning, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing four hits and three earned runs (four total). He also struck out two. Mitchell Granna closed out the game for the Scots, getting out the only batter he faced.

Matt Hall was a part of every score the Scots in the game, bringing in the first two runs for the team in the 6th and 8th on singles to left and right field, scoring Jacob Johnston and Zach Devries. Hall then was brought home in the 8th by a Colin Dunworth 2 RBI single to left center that also scored Brayden Evans

Hall was the offensive MVP for the Scots in the tournament, hitting .563 for the tournament with nine hits, three RBI, two runs scored, and a double.

Despite the loss, this year was a massive success for the Scots, breaking the school record for wins in a season with 32, and winning the CCS Regular Season title for the second consecutive season. Coach Helton was named the CCS Coach of the Year, also for the second year in a row, and also produced the conference player of the year in Colin Dunworth

The Scots currently rank 22nd in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) and have a chance at an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The selection show will take place on Monday, May 12th, at Noon.
