"The men's team had a great win today!" Head Coach Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams said. "It's been since 2007 that Maryville College men's cross country team has won a race. I have been telling these boys that they have a lot of potential and I think they really saw that today. They won the race, beat out conference foe Asbury, beat the school record for best team time average (29:32), and scored the 4th best team score in MC history. They all ran really strong despite facing illnesses and still have lots of potential left for growth this season. We plan to piggy back off the race and continue to fight the rest of this season."

Freshman Adyn Elliot had a terrific race, finishing second overall with a time of 28:33.56, which is the 8th fastest 8k performance in MC history.

"The race today was amazing," Elliot said. "It was a beautiful day and you couldn't ask the lord for nicer weather. I'm so proud of these boys that I run with. They really showed out today and made their presence known by putting in backbreaking work to grab the win. We put some fear in the teams we ran against, and I can't wait to show up and beat them again next time. I'm super excited to see what else our team can do this season."

On the women's side, the team finished fourth overall with 81 points. Sophomore Megan Shinn finished 6th overall int he race with a time of 21:44.44.

"The women's team showed a lot of growth this race,". Carringer-Adams said. "Last year our time average was 26:52 and today it was 23:14- that's huge progress in one year. This team has been facing injuries and illnesses the last two weeks so our main goal right now is to just get healthy again, but showing that much growth without the full team able to race was still a great day. Every single girl ran a collegiate PR and we had two runners in the top 15- Megan Shinn #6 who moved up to #7 best 5k performer for MC cross country history and Addison Goodwin #12. We are heading in the right direction and I am proud of their hard work today."

The teams are back in action Sep. 27 at the Asbury XC Invitational in Wilmore, Ky.
