Baseball Opens 150th Season in Dominating Fasion

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The 150th season of Maryville College baseball opened in emphatic fashion Friday evening as the Scots erupted for 17 runs in a 17–1 victory over Hampden-Sydney at the Joe Ferebee Classic.

Maryville scored in five of seven innings, pounded out 16 hits, and capitalized on five Hampden-Sydney errors to improve to 1-0 on the young season.

The tone was set immediately.

The Scots exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues while applying early offensive pressure. RBI opportunities came quickly, and Maryville never looked back after grabbing the 5-0 lead.

They added three more in the second and two in the third to build a 10-0 cushion before delivering the knockout blow in the fourth inning.

Maryville plated six runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run ground-rule double from Colin Dunworth and a two-run double from Frank Derner. The Scots were relentless on the basepaths as well, swiping four bases and consistently putting pressure on the Hampden-Sydney defense.

Dunworth finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Derner drove in three runs. Brayden Evans added two hits and two RBIs, and Masin Hall reached base three times and scored three runs. Irvin Hernandez capped the scoring in the seventh with an RBI double after Luke Wright's pinch-hit triple.

On the mound, Kyle Timko was dominant in his season debut. The right-hander tossed six shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out four and walking none to earn the win. Timko needed only 67 pitches to navigate the Hampden-Sydney lineup and kept the Tigers off balance throughout.

Cody Boisvert closed out the game in the seventh inning, allowing one run as Maryville secured the run-rule victory.

The Scots finished with 12 RBIs, six walks, and 16 hits while committing no errors defensively.

Maryville continues play at the Joe Ferebee Classic looking to build early momentum in its milestone season.
